How do the Angels Help Us? Guidance, Signs and Support

How do the Angels Help Us?

When people ask the angels for help, they usually have an idea of what that help should look like. They want the illness to go away, the relationship to work, the job offer to arrive or the difficult situation to be resolved. They ask for a particular outcome and often expect it to happen quickly.

But that is our human perception of help. We see the problem, decide what the solution should be and ask the angels to make it happen. Without realizing it, we may be trying to control the outcome.

The angels can support us fully, but their support may not look the way we expect. What we are asking for may not be for our best and highest good. Receiving it immediately could take away an important lesson or create another lesson further down the road. Sometimes the greatest help the angels can give us is peace, guidance or a new perspective on what is already happening.

Angelic Support Does Not Always Change the Circumstance

I have worked with mothers whose children were facing serious illnesses. Naturally, they wanted to know what the angels had to say. The message might be that everything was where it needed to be, that their child is in good hands and that they were doing the right things.

To a frightened mother, “Everything is okay” can sound like a promise that the child will recover. But that is not always what the message means.

In one situation, the child did pass. The mother later asked why she had been told that everything was okay when, from her perspective, it clearly was not. What eventually came through was that the child knew she was going to pass and was at peace. It was the mother who was not at peace.

That is a difficult example, but it shows why we have to be careful about placing our own meaning on angelic guidance. The angels were not promising the outcome the mother wanted. They were offering reassurance about the child's experience and supporting both of them through something that could not simply be taken away.

If a person is meant to pass from an illness, the angels may help that person feel peaceful, accepting and supported. They may help the family see the experience differently. The help is real, even though it does not fix the circumstance.

Ask for Guidance, Not Control

The quality of the question matters. Instead of asking, “Please make this particular company hire me”, you might ask, “Please guide me to the job that is right for me.” The highest-paying job may not offer the freedom, purpose or quality of life that another opportunity could provide.

Instead of asking the angels to make a person return to a relationship, ask for clarity about the relationship or guidance about how to move forward. We cannot use angelic help to control someone else's choices. We can ask for guidance about our own path.

I often add the words, “This or something better.” Those words leave room for possibilities we cannot currently see. We may be limiting the answer by insisting that it arrive in one particular form.

You can call on an Archangel associated with the subject of your request, or you can simply pray. Angels are messengers of God. You can speak silently or aloud. You do not need perfect words or a formal process. Pure intention is enough.

Try asking, “Please provide me with the guidance and insight I need around this situation. I am open to this or something better, for my best and highest good.” Then remember that you still have a human part to play. You may need to make a call, have a conversation, say yes to an opportunity, say no to something that no longer fits or change a pattern in your own life.

The angels can guide you, but they will not live your life for you.

How the Answer May Reach You

I often suggest asking a question before going to sleep or just after waking. During those times, you may be moving through alpha or theta brainwave states and have easier access to your subconscious mind. You may receive an answer through a dream, an impression upon waking or something you suddenly understand.

For me, the answer often comes in the shower. I may ask my question before bed and not remember a dream. Then the water hits me in the morning, and I receive an inspired thought about what I need to do.

Your answer may arrive through any of the four clairs: what you see, hear, sense or know. A person may say something that connects directly to your question, and then someone else says nearly the same thing. A song you did not expect may play in the car and its message feels like the answer. Guidance may come while you are journaling, through a new opportunity or as a quiet shift in how you feel.

There is no single right way to receive angelic guidance. The important part is learning how you receive information and then  paying attention. If you would like to develop a clearer connection with the angels, Angel Connections will help you explore the four clairs, understand how the Archangels work with you and create a more consistent way to receive and interpret their messages.

Ask, then allow some space. When fear takes over, we tend to ask the same question repeatedly because we are trying to force certainty. Eventually, the mind begins supplying the answer we have already programmed into it. Faith asks the question and trusts that the guidance will arrive in the right timing.

Sometimes We Resist the Help We Asked For

Years ago, when my mediumship was beginning to open, I was traveling frequently for my corporate job. I was staying in Rhode Island with my team while we worked a series of health fairs. At the time, I was also working with angel oracle cards. I repeatedly pulled a card telling me that a soulmate relationship was coming.

I resisted the message. I was busy with work, travel and building my own practice. I did not want a relationship distracting me, and I certainly did not want another long-distance relationship.

There was a man staying at the hotel with a group working on a Verizon project. We spoke briefly one evening, but I did not even introduce myself. That night, I dreamed about being in a long-distance relationship with him and discussing how we could make it work.

Finally, I told the angels I would stop resisting. I was willing to be open if the relationship complemented my life and did not interfere with the work I was building. I asked them to make the next step easy if this truly was the person they had been telling me about.

The following evening, I saw him leave the hotel with a friend and assumed the opportunity had passed, as I was leaving the next day. I released it and thought, “If it is meant to be, it will happen.” A short time later, he returned and invited me to go dancing.

What I did not know was that he had already reached the destination with his friend before deciding to return to the hotel specifically to ask me to join him.

That became a meaningful relationship that lasted several years, and he remains a good friend. The angels did not force either of us to act. The guidance kept coming, but I had to stop resisting it. He still had to decide to come back, and I still had to say yes.

If Angels Protect Us, Why Do Difficult Things Happen?

People often ask why wars, famine, poverty and other painful events exist if angels are protecting us. Free will is a major part of the answer. One person's choice can affect hundreds or thousands of other lives. Natural events and our individual soul paths also create circumstances that are larger than one person's prayer.

Protection does not mean that everything will be perfect. We also cannot see everything happening in the background or know what might have been prevented. A small improvement is still an improvement, even when the situation remains difficult.

I believe angels work at many levels. Some support individuals. Others work with world leaders, the environment, weather and larger events. If it is not our time to leave the Earth, they can step in during a dangerous situation and keep us from altering the plan too drastically. But they do not remove our free will, and protection does not eliminate the human experiences we came here to have.

Angelic help may also arrive in very human form. A teacher, neighbor, counselor, friend or stranger may provide the exact support someone needs. The door may open, but the person must choose whether to walk through it.

What If It Seems Like Nothing Is Happening?

There is often much more happening in the background than we can see. Small changes may already be unfolding, but we overlook them because we are waiting for a dramatic miracle.

Movies and television often portray angels arriving through one unmistakable, life-changing event. In my experience, their help is usually much quieter. It appears through small messages, subtle redirections and people placed along our path.

Sometimes a person comes to me and says the angels have not answered. I will ask, “What do you think we are doing here?” Being guided to someone who can offer insight may be part of the answer. An Angel Guidance reading can help you hear, see, sense or know the guidance that may be difficult to recognize for yourself.

At that point, we may need to examine the original question. Is it coming from faith or fear? Is it asking for guidance, or demanding a specific result? Is the person waiting for the angels to do something that requires a human choice or change?

Sometimes an angel reading becomes a spiritual counseling session because the answer is not about the angels changing the situation. The person may need to address old programming, survival patterns or fear so they can recognize and accept the help that is already available.

If you are waiting for an answer, consider asking a different question:

- What do I need to understand about this situation?

- What is my next step?

- What am I being asked to change or release?

- Where is support already showing up that I have not recognized?

- How can I move toward this or something better?

Then pay attention. Notice what you see, hear, sense and know. Stay open to the person, idea or opportunity that appears quietly. The angels may not remove the human experience, but you do not have to move through it alone.
